Family Cycle Works didn't start with a business plan. It started with a collection of frustrations.
Chris Jornlin spent years in engineering — good at the work, but increasingly certain it wasn't his work. He'd been riding bikes since he was five years old. City streets as a kid. College commutes. And then, in his 30s, something shifted. He built a proper road bike. Started riding gravel. Completed a bikepacking trip through the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest — 100 miles over three days with his partner Colleen. The more he rode, the more he noticed: finding a shop that actually treated you like a person was harder than it should be.
So he built one.
Family Cycle Works opened in West Allis because this community deserves a neighborhood bike shop — the kind where someone explains what your bike actually needs before they touch it, where a kid's first bike gets the same attention as an expensive road build, and where you leave knowing more than you came in with. The goal has been the same since day one: every customer leaves feeling confident about their bike and their ride.
Cycling brings joy in all its forms. It is for everyone. And you can spend your whole life discovering new ways to have fun on a bike. We are here for all of it.
